The Northumbria Art and Technology Partnership
This course prides itself on high quality school placements, compassionate and expert mentoring; outstanding partnerships with museums, galleries and the wider creative community; the opportunity to teach in a second art or technology subject, thorough and proactive management and quality assurance of the programme.
The course has been built around partnerships with primary, secondary and special schools,; museums and galleries; community groups, artists and designers; and offers you the opportunity to gain a PGCE qualification in Secondary Art or Design Technology Education with Qualified Teacher Status.
We will prepare you to become a highly effective practitioner, able to make a significant contribution to education and equipped to teach secondary pupils across the range of art and design specialisms. The Programme Lead has a wide and extensive range of experience both as a Curriculum Leader and Senior Leader with a wealth of experience in Secondary education in the North East.
You will spend the majority of your time on placement at two contrasting secondary schools. Placements will run from Monday to Thursday from September through to May. The last six weeks of the course will be full time. Friday sessions will take place at either the Northumbria University campus or at other educational establishments, museums, galleries, studios and workshops. All locations are central to the Newcastle area and provide trainees with a wide and varied experience of Art and Technology education throughout the North East.
Thanks to our exclusive partnership with the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, you will also have access to BALTIC’s extensive library and archive as well as the Library, Student Resources and Support Services through Northumbria University.
